CEREAL BY-PRODUCT FOR ANIMALS

Bran is the hard outer layer of grain that is removed during milling. Wheat bran is mainly used to feed equidae.

Wheat bran is a palatable concentrate that adds calories to the diet. Horses with high caloric needs, or those unable to tolerate added oil, may benefit from a wheat bran supplement.

• Bran has cooling and laxative properties (which may vary according to the horse's sensitivity).
• Incorporated into the ration, bran provides good energy value

Ideal as a first ingredient for Bran Mash:

There are a variety of commonly used Wheat Bran Mash recipes, and most involve mixing hot water with about four to eight cups of bran until it's well saturated. The mixture should clump together when squeezed. If you can squeeze water out of it, it's too wet and needs more bran.
