WHEAT/SOYBEAN OIL
Adding fat to a feeding program is an excellent way to improve the physical condition of demanding, high-performance, special-needs and senior horses. Fats are energy-dense and provide more than twice as many kcal per gram (9 kcal per gram) as carbohydrates and proteins (both provide 4 kcal per gram).
Adding fat will reduce the amount of grain needed, improve the digestibility of fat-soluble vitamins and slow the flow of food from the stomach to the small intestine, where digestive enzymes work to further break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats. By improving nutrient absorption in the small intestine (foregut), fewer nutrients will reach the hindgut (large intestine and cecum), resulting in less fermentation, gas, bloating and possible digestive upset.
The blend of wheat germ oil and soybean oil is an excellent source of essential fatty acids, as well as vitamins A, D and E. Not only will the horse get a glossy, luxurious coat, but it can help maintain body weight for those tough. keepers, by adding fat calories that are easy to digest. The addition of vitamins A, D and E makes it an excellent all-round dressing, pleasant to the taste and economical, reducing the need for extra cereals.
