HEMP SEED OIL
NATURAL FATTY ACIDS SUPPLEMENT
Giving hempseed oil to a horse can have a number of nutritional and physiological benefits, provided it is dosed correctly and used wisely.
Hemp oil is one of the few vegetable oils to contain an optimal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 (around 1:3), which helps to :
- support joint and muscle health
- reduce inflammation (particularly after exercise or in cases of osteoarthritis)
- maintain healthy skin and a shiny coat
- strengthen the immune system
Hemp oil's fatty acids provide "cool" energy, i.e. non-excitatory (unlike fast sugars)
Thanks to its high vitamin E and phytosterol content, it can help to :
- regulate stress and improve concentration
- support hormonal functions and fertility (in mares and stallions)
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
Depends on the horse's weight and activity level:
- Adult horse (500 kg): 30 to 60 ml per day on average
- Pony or light horse: 15 to 30 ml per day, mixed into the ration
Always start with a small dose (10-15 ml) for a few days to get the intestinal flora used to it.
