The multiple possible combinations depending on the choice of rein placement and side, soft or strong, produce very variable effects. Below are the combinations of reins and alliances: 1. Reins on the center ring: the action of the bit resembles that of a Baucher snaffle. The main action is on the horse's mouth, so the pressure on the neck is very light. 2. Reins on the lower ring: the leverage effect is stronger.

The bit is similar to a 3-ring snaffle, but the pressure is distributed evenly over the horse's mouth and neck. 3. A medium impact is achieved by using the links that are attached to the center and bottom rings. 4. In addition, a curb chain can also be used, attached to the top ring. Thanks to the 2-in-1 barrel, the butterfly snaffle has two additional levels of intensity in the horse's mouth by simply turning the bit 180 degrees:
